The Moorlands CBL website is now more accessible than ever with the addition of Browsealoud
- a system that allows visitors to have the content read out loud by their computer.
Browsealoud is ideal for people who find it difficult to read information online.
Reading large amounts of text on screen can be difficult for those with literacy
and visual impairments. It's also a great tool for those learning English as a second
language as it has additional tools that provide definitions for words that may
not be recognised. A further tool allows large amounts of text to be saved as MP3
audio files that can then be listened to using MP3 players and Ipods whilst on the
move.
Over seven million people in the UK have literacy problems, many of whom have downloaded
Browsealoud already. It's a commonly used system that's used by over 350 local government
sites and over 100 other housing association sites. It's also used by the likes
of the BBC and Google. The new functions are in addition to existing language translation
options, font enlargement features and high contract options for the visually impaired.
If you are interested in using Browsealoud simply click on the logo above to be
directed to the Browsealoud home page. Once you have followed their simple instructions
and downloaded the file to your computer you will be able to use Browsealoud on
any enabled site. Once you have downloaded the file you will also be able to save
it onto a disk or memory stick and take it with you when you use other computers
at internet cafes or libraries.
